 Tell Me a Story

Have you ever had your daughter come up to you and say?
“Dad, I'm in the mood to listen to you;  tell me a story.”
Reaching back into the depths of my creative mind
I seek to entertain, to enlighten, and to educate my daughter.
The yarns begin to pour forth from my soul into the air.
Her ears pick up the sounds and she sits mesmerized.

Have you ever had your daughter come up to you and say?
“Dad, I'm in the mood to listen to you;  tell me a story.”
My heart spins out story after story, she listens.
Years pass; that little girl grows to a pre-teen quickly.
No longer does she ask for a story anymore, just for a few bucks.
I see her becoming a young woman, too busy to listen anymore.

Have you ever had your daughter come up to you and say?
“Dad, I'm in the mood to listen to you;  tell me a story.”
The memories of those times when I was a the center of her world,
When my words were not too embarrassing or too corny.
She grows and becomes a mom with a beautiful young son.
I wonder if she reaches into her soul to tell Dana a story.

Have you ever had your daughter come up to you and say?
“Dad, I'm in the mood to listen to you;  tell me a story.”
The memories of her childhood overshadow the pains of life.
The joy of being at the center of the universe for your child,
Though too short, is the most precious of all the memories.
Maybe I'll her Dana say those words, “Pawpaw, tell me a story.”
