Notes To My Father

Dad thought of you today
been years since you went away
remembering you like yesterday dad
missing what I once had
spring was one of your favorite seasons
for many special reasons
I can see those heavy dirty worn boots
you digging and pulling up roots
wearing those giant coveralls
music you heard creature and nature calls
up early in morning before sun
working hard until day was done
providing always giving
making a decent living
sitting high up on your tractor
that was just one factor
sweat seeping from your brow
as you tugged with your plow
cultivating fertilizing the land
with your strong bare hands
going up and down each row, leaving trails
hauling buckets and pails
seeds you planted in soil
poured hours and minutes overtime toil
seeing you walking up and down row by row
trying to make something grow
you going out to the fields
waiting for vegetables to yield
your heart and soul warmed the land
you were a hard working man
working all alone
turning a house into a place called home
family treasures of gold
stories you told
spring was one of your favorite seasons
for many special reasons

In loving memory of my father.

The soil is the great connector of lives, the source and destination of all.
