Amsterdam

Pappa Pronk ran his hotel on the most famous street in town
Where there were always tourists incredulously looking around
At the ladies in their windows there all on display
Trying not to look too bored just an average working day.
At the weekend came us squaddies,
Glasby and Gunner and Eddie and me.
Quickly crossing Dam Square and first to the Pronk to see
That Pappa had some room left for us to spend the night
Then to a local noshery for a stomach lining bite
Before the sights of that city an amazement and a joy
To such an immature Yorkshire village boy.
I did so much growing there with friends to hold my hand.
They taught me so much and helped me understand
And the ladies of the city sometimes made me think,
They'd join us in the Pronk for an after work drink
And they would spend some time were never in a rush
They seemed to enjoy so much trying to make me blush.
And the ladies of Amsterdam in many ways gave me joy
And one way or another made the man from the boy.
There were always tourists incredulously looking around
Where Pappa ran a hotel on the most famous street in town
