 Sharing Our Bed

For over thirty-one years, I have gladly scooted over;
I enjoy the elbow in the ribs from time to time.
The feminine gentle snore on that rare occasion;
The cold feet on my legs on a winter's night.
The pleasures of sharing our bed.

We never needed a television in our bedroom;
Entertainment could be found if we desired it.
I look to my left and see the love of my life;
Also our cat, purring, then snoring loudly.
The pleasures of sharing our bed.

Our marriage has endured the tests of time;
Life  brought us together in such a random way.
Events cascaded to bring you into my world,
Simply to enable me to reach over and touch you.
The pleasures of sharing our bed.

Intimacy certainly brings us to our bed often,
But so does friendship, as well as companionship.
Sometimes it is the quiet soft silence of comfort,
Not having to say or do anything, just being here.
The pleasures of sharing our bed.

This is the most special room in our house to me;
It contains an unspoken richness of emotions.
I am brought to life by your slightest touch;
A caress of intention, sometimes of simply friendship.
The pleasures of sharing our bed.

Marital bliss is renewed each night as we lay down together;
Physically, emotionally, spiritually; each a kaleidoscope of joy.
The touch of your hand still thrills me as much as the first time;
I am in love with you, Sherrie; it's getting late, come on to bed.
The pleasures of sharing our bed.
