 The Return
It has been five weeks since I last passed through the gates;
Work has gone through some tumultuous days since I was there.
Boiler leaks, layoffs, and union issues have been the problems;
Yet I have been insulated, on the outside looking in, detached.
Today that all changes as I have now shaved and am preparing;
My lunch box has been filled, my work boots are standing ready.
I may be able to turn in my turn down slip today and freeze on my job;
Or I may have these hopes dashed once again by union squabbles.
I return to my operator job, ready to work once again, refreshed;
Well rested as my sabbatical has come to an end with many blessings.
I am at peace as I return today, I hope that peace isn't chased away;
As life returns to normal, the shift worker's delight, working 3/11.
