 A Collection of Words

Moments

The sun paints the trees a calm shade of gold
As the evening now descends
The slow moving water sings gently her song
A song that has no end

We sit there together in reverent awe
Quiet observers of time
And two graceful deer just seem to appear
Like a thought from God's own mind

They seem unaware of our watching them there
They are totally at ease
Intent upon finding a little to eat
Among the crisp brown leaves

Soft amber light seems to enfold us
A breeze makes the branches sigh
I look at your face as you stare at our friends
And a tear escapes my eye

Your voice breaks the spell that we've found ourselves in
As you call out gently to them
Softly at first  then louder next time
But I long for stillness again

The moment has vanished just like the deer
Who bolted into the wood
To a world of brown sounds and landscapes still
A place that is pure and good

My hand reaches searching seeking for yours
My mind is doing the same
And although this sweet moment has gotten away
It will come back to visit again
