Learn Language
Commands, description, narration.
How language means.
Have a nice day.
Yes, I'd like one.
Do you have one?
I've got to grasp that on the upshot.
Not literally.
Only as a courtesy.
"I like you and am wishing you well."
Oh, now, I'm a translator.
Who is really listening to me?
That's what I'd like to know.
We'd like you to be more considerate of your elders.
Tough shit!
Polite requests, moral precepts, venting of emotion.
Yes, they all mean.
They say language has a magical quality.
The hungry girl utters, "cook" at her mother.
"Cook with what?" the poor parent states.
Well, she tried.
That's a pretty fine tool.
So, what's the problem?
The motive of the speaker is different everywhere.
Values and perceptions vary and conflict.
Words can hurt. Words can soothe.
Language names reality.
A "cat" is a cat. A "dog" is a dog.
Animals, more generally.
Now, I'm a semanticist.
Care to discuss connotation?
Somewhere it all doesn't fit.
It all doesn't mesh, jibe.
We've tried.
Linguistics can be an endless study.
