FAST & HEAVY - I

I still remember the commercial for Phillip's Powerhouse
The background soundtrack had me aroused
It was the anthem called "Highway Star"
Starting off explosively with the demonic car
It started when my brother was home for vacation
His music collection produced an electric sensation
And thus was my shattering introduction to rock
I soon made my way through his entire stock
I recall the year was '93 or ‘94
And I kept getting drawn for more and more
My brother had Aerosmith, Van Halen and Dire Straits
That really helped me unlock the floodgates
Deep Purple was a constant, staple diet
Metallica and Megadeth kicked up a riot
Then, Jon Bon Jovi was supposed to be a god
His permed hair-do was not considered odd
Of course U2 are an all time hit for me
Pink Floyd too played a lot for me

Eventually I came to punk and heavy metal
The kind of music which leaves parents unsettled
Which figured bands like Kreator and Motorhead
Their songs of sex, drugs and the living dead
Another notable would have to be Iron Maiden
With melody and meaning their songs were laden
Three guitarists in their line up of six
Of course their mascot and on stage gimmicks
I am not a fan of alternative rock, I must say
Although I do like Collective Soul and Green Day
Nickelback is another favourite band on the block
How they remind me of alternative grunge rock

.... (part II follows)
