It was 1959 a medic Randolph Air force Base
A day that began in the emergency room
Put this on as we go--it was a flight jacket
Hanger nine I was rushed to a waiting helicopter
Dropped from a bucket swaying in the wind
It was cold dreary windy and I thought I would fly out
All I was told a plane had gone down pilot in the water
It was brutal cold an Angel sat on my shoulder
Freezing I thought I was going to die and then
A log in the water and something moving on top
I threw my hands in the air yelling and waving
I heard them above saying, "We checked it earlier!"
The Angel said to insist and point and yell
I heard the cursing from above of wasting time
As we approached there was the slightest movement
There passed out on the log was the barely moving pilot
Three months later he came to thank me--Five minutes more
he was told and he would have died on the log of hypothermia
I told him the truth he had an Angel sitting on my shoulder
This is a true story. Every Airman dreams of flying high in
a jet plane. This man was an instructor. Radar in the fog
had made a mistake. The co-pilot trainee did not eject in time.
I was given the chance of a lifetime to go co-pilot in a two man
trainer jet. Upon landing I threw up on my new flight jacket.
I have a lot of respect for those who fly at the speed of light.
