My Wilderness

A wilderness… is, washing over me
stripping everything I've known
tearing down all that I've built
and all that I have grown.
Gone now the passion once so bright
that lit each pathway less trod
gone is my faith tortured by high priests
lost is my faith with my God.
Fading are memories of the love that I once knew
now all that I see is laid bare
and love has become as hollow as my life…
with nothing and no one nowhere!
Why is it I that must be cast into this place
after loving life so painfully true?
if love was misplaced then how much must I suffer…?
I was only ever thinking of you.
Sunrises now just highlight what's empty
and each sunset always leaves me alone
and the darkness that follows just adds to my shadow
then everywhere but nowhere is home.
Sometimes I see a glimmer of my dreams
with green trees and green fields so wide
blue skies and rainbows spread over the heavens
and lovers would no longer cry.
No longer cry for the love that just slipped away
no longer cry for lost dreams
no longer cry the wilderness left in their hearts
when their lovers love… just ceased to be.
Sunrise would fulfil all of their dreams
and sunset would see all… dream well
of the blue skies and rainbows over the heavens
would speak of the hopes that they'd tell.
But woefully this is only a sad dream
I have lost all that was sacred to me
and this wilderness now is that I'll ever know
and the loneliness is all that I'll see.
