The war to end all warsIt was the war to end all wars, the final righteous fight, It was the cause of all causes, doing duty for what was right, Australia farewelled their young sons, off serving in a distant land, Each one a hero were now gone, their last vision a waving hand, The call to help old Britain, young Australians answered the call, The mother country welcomed them, a hero one and all, The beaches of Turkey beckoned, their ticket to hell on earth, The spirit of the glorious ANZAC, was given a most painful birth, Fighting shoulder to shoulder, storming the cliffs under fire, Fallen was a fellow soldier, caught up on rusty barbed wire, They obediently followed orders, as clouds of death rained down, They fought in foreign borders, some succumbed in a foreign town, At dawn service we remember the fallen, on this a reverent day, To men who answered the calling, for a cause so far away, We march with pride and honour, each year we think of the brave, Lest we forget the young soldier, their life with courage they gave Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
