NODDING DONKEY - II

(continued from part I)

Being a trade commodity, oil is beyond supply-demand
Just like any other, investors can drive prices out of hand
Speculation is only making the market situation worse
Whereas present political scene is an international curse
Indonesia recently quit OPEC as it has ceased to export
Malaysia cut the fuel budget and killed its public support
Cutting crude production is the latest Libyan threat
Meanwhile oil hungry India and China continuously fret

Even the arctic region is being sucked into this dispute
Superpowers appear to only allege claims and then refute
This frigid region is supposed to be abundant in sources of fuel
But so far the stage looks set only for international duel
Russia went ahead to plant their flag and claim a piece
While the rest of the world looks on in growing unease
The race for oil, gas and shipping has spilled onto this virgin sea
But none heed the environmental and humanitarian emergency
It's said that the cost of extracting a barrel of oil
Is around 35 dollars worth of blood, sweat and toil
Environmental issues we cannot afford to forego
As succinctly put by M. K. Gandhi long time ago
“The earth has enough for everybody's need
But not enough for everybody's greed”
