MOTHER & CHILD

It was a beautiful spring day, pleasant and bright
She was lying on the ground in the sun light
She had large, glistening and shiny black eyes
Maybe gazing up into the clear blue skies
A long, leafy stalk dangled from her lips
As she scratched her head with her fingertips
Her demeanour was lazy and passive
She was undoubtedly huge and massive
Her dark hair was thick and furry
She lay in the grass without a worry

Suddenly a small head rose from behind her frame
It was her baby, happily engrossed in some game
The baby was brimming over with vigour
He climbed on top of his resting mother
But she wouldn't budge from her place of rest
So he climbed up and sat down on her chest
Looking down at her, he ran baby paws over her face
While she shook her head in an effort to displace
The baby's hilarious antics were met with rebuff
The mother decided that she had had enough
She gently slapped away his little butt
And rolled to her side with her eyes shut
But the energetic baby was not discouraged
Something else had him already engaged
He had a lot of enthusiasm and spunk
Jumping and playing around a fallen tree trunk
Maybe he wished for a playmate or a little brother
After a while he cautiously re-approached his mother

This time she got up and swiftly sat upright
Pulled him into her lap, arms around him tight
And thus sat both of them, not exactly in the wild
Watchful mother and inquisitive, playful child
It was very heartwarming just watching the two
Quite at home in the well known Berlin Zoo
Well cared, healthy and happy brown bears
The object of many cameras and admiring stares
