TWENTY - Part the ThirdBy Madpote and Psixpence I arrived far too early In a state of panicky fear. Had I rushed her too much? Would she even appear? She must have been shocked As she turned down the street To be grabbed in a cuddle That swung her off her feet. I got ready early For our first proper date Would he even turn up? Didn't want to be late Butterflies in my tummy As I walked down the street And then, like a whirlwind, I was swept off my feet! Just that lovely smile No sign of any frown, So I whirled her once or twice Then gently put her down Into the quiet cafe bar With a sober sort of crowd Soft lights and sweet music Soothing rather than loud He took me to a café bar I felt just like a queen This was not the sort of place I usually was seen, He said that now he'd met me He would never want another And then, before I knew it, I'd agreed to meet his Mother! I couldn't believe my ears as I said My folks will certainly like you Why don't you come home soon See if you like them too I was a sea of conflicting feelings My body was raging and on fire With tender and protective thoughts Mixed with those of a great desire Things were moving rather quickly - Wasn't sure that I was ready To get into the ‘family thing', We were barely going steady! But when I looked into his eyes I felt such deep emotion Could I really be in love? Or was it a passing notion? Vote for this poem
