Lost Love

Better to have loved and lost,
But oh, the awful, aching cost.
I gave my all, held nothing back;
It seemed so rich, nothing lacked.

We wove our destiny with strands of gold;
We painted with colors sharp and bold.
Now that pattern is faded and worn;
The loom is shattered and the painting torn.

For a brief moment we held the stars,
This woman from Venus and man from Mars.
But stars, like dreams, belong to the night,
And fade with the dawn of the morning light.

The time we shared was bitter sweet;
So rich and full, and yet so fleet.
The memories I'll treasure, while life remains;
Till all is dark, and time's hourglass drains.
