Do you ever wonder;
when you pass by;
an old withered barn.
What story lies;
behind it's old tattered worn;
and decayed timbers and beams.
How they hold such meaning;
from so long ago.
They truly do have a story;
of their own indeed.
Each one different;
in it's own unique way.
Each having a mark in history.
You somehow wonder;
how some have withstood;
the years of time and the elements;
why are they still standing.
You also wonder;
how many times they've had repairs.
When you look at;
these old falling down barns ;
you just have to ask yourself.
I wonder! Oh' if those old worn out;
walls could only talk.
Would they put a smile on your face;
put a crutch in your heel;
make you shed a few tears.
And last but not least;
probably right down shock anyone.
You wonder' about the many stories;
that were swapped between the old farmers.
You wonder' how many bales of straw;
and hay it held, through the many years.
And were there any strangers;
passing through that needed to bed down;
for the night from the wind and the cold.
Or who was just plain tired.
And took a spot in the straw;
with a cow !
I wonder sometimes;
how many animals came into the world;
in that barn.
I look at them and I wonder;
if some young couple made love;
for the first time beaded down;
in the straw beside the horse stall.
Yes' when you see these old barns;
you would just love to know the stories;
about a particular one.
You may even ask yourself;
if someone might have committed murder;
in some of these old land-marks Maybe?
'You wonder'.
Yes' old withered barns;
certainly do have an old story to tell.
Oh' how you would be amazed;
if you really knew.
So' the next time you are driving;
around the country side and drive;
by an old withered barn.
Stop' and gaze for a minute;
and try and read what it has to say.
See if you can get something from it.
Old Withered Barns !! I love them.
