Waylon

It was his last major concert
Not really fit enough to stand
So he sat centre stage to sing
In front of his Waymores band
The rugged looks were there
The voice held its power still
But I think he played
By very force of his will

As he sang the old songs
Some of them more new
But every single one a song
That I both loved and knew
Veteran friend of Buddy
Who by the luck of a toss
Didn't ride that plane
So was not one of the lost

He paid his dues with his music
Kept faith with all his fans
Led the outlaw movement
Seemed never one of the gang
Very soon after that concert
The Big Man was gone
But he left us his music
And his legend carries on
