 Getting Out of Dodge

Sherrie and I are in need of an escape;
We need time away, no matter the shape.
Going to the coast to visit some of our kin;
We will talk of the good things way back when.
First stopping to see Sherrie's dad's grave;
Thinking about the love that he so freely gave.
Then on to Sherrie's step-mom's for the afternoon,
As we always enjoy the time spent with June.
Across the backwaters into Portsmouth town;
To Dorothy's house, she is such a clown.
Sherrie's aunt, but in reality, so much more;
Her friend and like a mom, who we both adore.
Spending the night, relaxing in the Hampton Inn;
Relaxed and peaceful, we each have a silly grim.
Sunday with my brother and his wife enjoying the time;
Remembering the days when we neither had a dime.
Bartering with friendship over his Harley bike;
Smiling, for I know that Sherrie would rather me hike.
Returning home in the evening, our trip complete;
Driving into the sunset, Sherrie beside me in the seat.
In our collective souls the peace does now lodge,
As we return after our trip, getting out of Dodge.
