Earlier I wrote a poem
Possibly no one read it
no one commented
But it was true life
Last night I as i do Sunday
Drove the fifteen miles
To my Nanny job
It's not for money
I'm Grandpa--retired
My Grandson worked all day
We had a garage sale
He's ten years old
He and Grandma made breakfast
This time he did it alone
He made from scratch German pancakes
Once I looked and he was sweeping
A large broom and he was helping
Earlier I wrote a poem
On the way to my nanny job
Five police cars surrounded a car
Several young boys were being cuffed
Cops were looking under cars
For the drugs they tried to hide
Sadly I had to wonder did anyone Nanny them
Was a Grandpa==a Mom and Dad
Sad for how they turned out?
The hope is I never hear the words
"We have your son or daughter!"
Mine are taught not to do drugs
Not to make bad decisions
In a perfect world that would be enough
Examples are all we can give our children
And praise when they are doing things right
Why I Nanny one day each week
And hope it will be enough
That my Grandkids will never be
Handcuffed and taken to jail for any reason
