 Different Voices

The voice you decide to listen to
Determines ultimately what you do
It may reveal ways wrong or right
Or give you preconceived insight

One voice can only be clearly heard
Through meditating on His true Word
It is the gentle, still voice of the Spirit
But it depends on how you respond to it

It always speaks what is completely true
Never contrary to God's plan for you
It always leads you to His perfect Way
Anything else may cause you to stray

Another voice is Satan or the Devil
Who is a liar and will only speak evil
He wants to convince you to believe
In half-truths that he uses to deceive

There is the voice of your conscience
With or without spiritual experience
It guides you in making moral decisions
But it can be ignored in any situation

Your mind can play tricks on you
With two voices saying what to do
The dominating thought usually wins
You always have a choice to avoid sin

A battle might be raging in your soul
Two opposing beliefs want control
To discover which is completely true
Involves research with an open mind too

If you really do not want to be deceived
By pleasing God in all that you believe
To decide how you are going to proceed
Opposes the power of the Spirit to lead

Desiring to listen to the Spirit's voice
Starts in the heart, involving a choice
Saying not my will, but Yours be done
Learning to rely totally upon His Son

God may send a friend to reveal His plan
Sharing the truth, to help you understand
The Spirit has given them divine insight
To lovingly guide you back into His light
