 A Father's Love

Time and time again, giving completely and fully;
Not expecting anything in return, nor receiving.
Working my fingers raw, scrubbing floors and walls,
Helping to make a her new house into a home.
Working at the mill in order to pay the overload of bills;
Drained of my spirit by mind-numbing industrialized labor.
Without an end in sight,  she has brought my grandson into the picture.
Resuming once again her shattered existence,
Leaning on those who would let her fall.
There I am, helping her up again… where is the wisdom…
Over the years as my dreams for her became dusty relics,
Going her own way, not needing an education;
Not needing my advice or experience;
She runs into wall after wall, unable to find her way.

I look at the situation from outside the emotions;
I see my Fathers love for me.
That unconditional love He showers upon my head,
For I am truly blessed.
Without any reason He loves me, other than I am His son;
Adopted into the circle of life,
Becoming One of the family.
As God lifts me on His massive shoulders and shouts to the universe,
‘This is my beloved son, dear to my heart!'

I pause and reflect.

Whenever I am feeling somewhat taken for granted,
I know that I am truly loved
By my daughter somewhere in time.
I know that someday, looking back she will thank my memory
For the love I showered into her life.
But I only did it my Father's way…
A Father's Love.
