It is happening everyday;
Used to be clever signs on freeway.
"I won't lie to you I need beer!"
Not a ha ha ha to me I fear!
The economy is moving some invisible in plain site.
Well dressed and handsome he holds a sign,
"I have two boys lost my job I am a painter!"
Some days you do not see him;
God bless him and I hope he finds work!
Then there's the dude long stringy hair.
Moves from bench to bench with his umbrella,
He just can't figure out what in life has done him in!
Could you give me money for drugs my friend.
I've been poor--out of work, no job I wouldn't take!
I pushed a broom with flour falling from the ceiling.
Powdered in while barely able to breath--$8 dollars an hour!
Walked four blocks and pulled with bleeding hand,
Cardboard from a moving conveyor for $6 and hour!
Sleep in my car for two hours and went to my real job;
Unloading buses--then I went to college classes!
I had a family to feed--bills to pay--so what I say?
Accolades to the man willing to paint houses!
Some of those homeless are not as invisible as others.
He didn't want a hand out he wanted work--I said,
"I have been there and we all need a helping hand."
The other guy! Offered a mattress was taking to the Goodwill.
He turned me down he wanted money for drugs to ease his pain.
Left him there moaning his woes in the rain!
Some of our homeless are more invisible that others.
