 The Gallows

These are my last words before I must go to the gallows;
Convicted of many heinous crimes against mankind.
My sentence is to be hung from the neck until dead;
I write this to humanity, to whoever these words find.

I was guilty of all of these crimes that I was convicted;
There were so many more unknown that I admit now.
I followed a wildness within the human spirit to the end;
Never satisfied, hungry for more excitement, more blood.

I didn't consider the victims of my crimes to be anything
Other than props on my stage; I was all that mattered.
When I look into my heart, I don't see a blackened soul;
No, I see only need; a tear of sadness comes to my eye.

Am I having a graveside conversion, coming to see the light?
Or is it that I'm just stopping for a moment to truly see?
I wonder what manner of beast I am, certainly not human;
Not by the definition known by you anyway; but what am I?

The creature within my body that lusts for those deeds;
Lurking in the background as you only see my gentle smile.
Luring in the unsuspecting victims to taste their blood;
My fangs are sharp, I bite your neck; draining your life.

Flying into the night skies with the lust once again fulfilled;
Sleeping the sleep of death throughout the day until rising.
Driven by hunger, by the passion for a taste of life's force;
I stand on the gallows with the noose around my neck and wait.

For sweet death.
