The Point of No Return

Far be it from me to sound so dismissive,
We've been too permissive.
I love.  I love.  I love.
Yes, I'm certain of my attitude.
I'm always the same at whatever altitude.
War and peace are just issues I can't relate.
I cannot identify with.
And yet, they determine my fate.
Do you understand that?
I do so desire to live.

There are deeds of past generations
that we cannot forgive.
So, we're at the point of no return.
God, let me stave off this hell
with my love!
I'm certain of my attitude.
Here's an apothegm:
you've made your bed now lie in it.
That's my lament.
Oh, these sins of my fathers
that have been visited on me.
This is the point of no return.

Jobs are gone that will not come back.
Sons are murdered that will not come back.
Life, in this vein, will not come back.
We find ourselves living for the moment.
No values to sail aloft with.
With everyday reality an end in itself,
everything we've previously lived for disappears,
shockingly, dashingly, to nowhere.
I do believe someone used to care.

Now we feel forsaken.
The future generation is marked "taken."
When we search for all the reasons,
they'll not be in the changing seasons.
No wonder we've lost our equanimity.
We've witnessed destruction of our humanity.
