DINNER

In Vietnam in 1966
He told me of dogs
That were not pets
Being food
Is a boxer
Better than a
Wiener dog
Or do tough-as-shoe leather
Muscles
Perspire gravy if cooked
With rice
And water chestnuts

Never have to eat a dog in Umatilla County
As when signals cease in cities
You have your canine a la cart
I'll have salmon with a Marion berry glaze
When we fall in starvation's daze.
