TV shows about lawyers and courts
provide enormous pleasure.
We live in a world where it's
so difficult to measure.
We have to tell the difference
between criminal and civil.
What fool would decide whether
damages or prison is preferable?
If you're so inclined,
this is what lawyer's call a fact situation.
An energetic seventeen year-old,
with a serious medical condition,
was out on a hot Kentucky August day,
having football practice on the field.
Wanted to belong, play varsity,
enjoy that repute.
I would say.
We do lots of good things to bolster our self-esteem.
He was taking proper medication.
The coach knew of his health problem.
Why didn't the doctor warn of potential risks?
It seemed reasonable to play, play, play.
Sorry to say, on one hot August day,
the young fellow collapsed and passed away.
The family and the coach both were upset.
The heat and the strain were the cause.
Wouldn't you know the parents thought
a lawsuit the best course of action?
Let the school and coach bring the game to the court.
The coach was negligent is what they contend.
As if he knew the boy would die
with the football in his hands.
I don't know what the court has decided.
The coach is not the boy's doctor.
What would you rule in this civil matter?
Surely the coach is not to blame.
