I died and went to a new paradise
Where everyone lived on green beans and rice
The lions were starving and spiders were sad
As they dreamed of the glorious life they once had
The sun shone down on a big grassy glade
But each leaf was as sharp as a razor blade
I asked God why but He only would tell
Me that everyone's heaven is somebody's hell
I saw a clown and he laughed in my face
And then wherever I ran he would chase
Me with his tricks and his big evil grin
And a promise to pay me the wages of sin
So I stopped running and laughed for awhile
And I fooled the whole world with my own stupid smile
But the joke he was telling was always the same
And the joke sounded a lot like my name
So I know we all have a story to sell
I see everyone's heaven is somebody's hell
I wait on a shore and I try not to see
How the sound of the water is laughing at me
I close my eyes and I try not to mind
That the sun on the water is making me blind
If peace is a river that runs to the sea
I'll wait till it rises to wash away me
