Poetic Verses

Number One

Some live their lives so selfishly
Looking out for number one
Although for virtue they would seek
For honor, there is none.

They always find the money fast
For things they hardly need
And tend to blame their deficits
On other people's greed.

It becomes for them so easy
To live from day to day
While treating others with contempt
Who dare get in their way.

They claim to have the saddest life
Which never is their fault
And yet, when needed, often seem
So rarely worth their salt.

These people wear my patience thin
Being ever on the take
And when it comes to selfish gain
Their friends they would forsake.

Yes, some would live so selfishly
Looking out for number one
Although for virtue they would seek
For honor, there is none.
