Etwas Gedanken

When love turned mean

The first time he saw her he stopped in his track
His eyes focussed intently and his jaw went slack
She was smiling, looking radiant in a white dress
Talking to her friend, unaware of his attempts to impress
But he had already made up his adamant mind
It seemed he saw what he had wanted to find
It didn't take her long to return the same feeling
She found him sincere, witty and appealing

Then flew by four quick, eventful years
Filled with laughter, fun, joy and few tears
They began spending a lot of time together
But it's often said: nothing is meant to last forever
They began bickering although nothing violent
The romantic saxophone suddenly fell silent
At times she annoyed him in no small measure
His company rarely gave her emotional pleasure
The same issues rose in their conversation
Never ending questions resulting in frustration
Like "How much do you really love me"
Or "Where are we headed, can you see?"
Without the slightest hint of a push or a shove
They had simply fallen in and out of love
The feeling was unknown, unheard, unforeseen
That's when they realized love had turned mean
