Given life through greed and corruption
though born out of equalities dream
a system that gives life to all manor of things
and we call it democracy
the majority get the government they ask for
but what they ask for is always delayed
until all of the peers and ministers and lords
receive all the allowances they claimed
Walpole our first to be first minister
as corrupt as any corrupt man could be
he paved the way for democracy today
and all the corruption we see.
Democracy has lived out its uses
another system is what we all need
too many light fingers keep dipping the goody jar
and the rest of us follow their greed
whatever happened to peace unto all men…?
where is the equality men died to bring…?
our democracy has created a fight to the end
for all men… in everything
we have grown past the need to fear difference
different… yet human us all
its much easier to reach out and offer our strength
for all of life's weak ones that fall.
The twenty first century now upon us
where the laws for the rich… for each man
no longer a club for every rich pup
we all get to lose our right hand!
…for dipping the jar for more cookies
when others are hungry and poor
and for storing a wealth we could never hope to spend
while all of the time wanting more
I pray for some wise man to come forth
and show us a different way to live
without evoking religious conundrums
of what we are all asked to give.
Most of us want a system that's viable
while a minority want control of each day
the power they wield can change all our lives
but the power they use just to play
with boys toys … big planes and fast rockets
to test out each others cruel depths
and watch as our young lives lay burning
without thinking of moral regret
now is the time we must stand up
for every young woman and man
no more TV screens of war and wars dreams
Democracy has done all it can!!!
