 Contemporary poetry by Dan Donlan

KNOWING YOUR LIMITATIONS

The farmer in panic climbed a tree
For in fear of the pursuers was he
But this was not very smart you agree
For chasing him a swarm of angry bee
Yet you see a beekeeper hand in the hive
Bees swarm around him dip and dive
Knowing his limitations gets him out alive
Me I buy my honey from a grocery store
I know my limitations not into stings and gore
My brother in law stirred up a nest of bees
they were stinging him down to his knees
Sister said don't run just stand very still
But you know those bees chased him up the hill
There he found himself on a hill of ants
They crawled up and stung above his pants
Those around him said boy could that boy dance
Finally he ran and dove into the lake
With a thousand bees following in his wake
