 Alone  2

Flying to Hawaii for vacation over the Pacific;
The plane's right wing bursts into flames.
Tumbling down from 20,000 feet to our collective doom;
I look into my wife's eyes and hold her hand.
I awaken holding onto a seat cushion, where is the pain?
Looking around, I see nothing but water, nothing but water.
No other soul do I see, only the setting sun into the ocean;
Dusk is falling quickly, only hearing the sound of the water.
As darkness falls, the bright stars comfort me for a moment;
Remembering my wife, but I cannot quite picture her face.
My past is slowly blurring into something I cannot grasp;
The sky begins to cloud on this moonless night.
Slowly light disappears, then the sounds slip away;
That thirst is now gone, the wetness of the water is no longer felt.
I escape deeper into my soul, finding refuge for a moment;
Then it is gone; encroaching deeper is this darkness.
No memories, no senses, nothing but fear and darkness;
But even more, that stranglehold of being alone, isolated.
My thoughts even begin to slow as a numbness dwells;
I cannot even know if I am still in my body any more.
‘Am I dead?' My mind shrieks, ‘Is this my eternal  destiny?'
Nothingness returns to me, there is only the void where love dies;
I am alone… so very alone in this darkness…  alone.
