 Disconnected

Unable to connect with the Internet today;
My land line is dead, what else can I say.
I am sitting here, wondering about my friends;
Disconnected from them until it all mends.
I called the phone company with my report;
They will come right out, the problem to sort.
Sitting in front of my computer, twiddling my thumbs;
Deciding to write, until the repairman comes.
Coffee by my side, keyboard at my fingers;
I will write as long as this mood lingers.
Without my contacts, the point is kinda moot;
My computer without the Internet I'd just as soon shoot.
Impersonal circuitry; just whirling away waiting;
For the emotions, the faces, the feelings, anticipating.
Patience, I tell myself, the world still does spin;
There is life without Internet, so I'm going to breathe again.
I step out onto the deck, listen to the birds sing;
Relaxing, not thinking, as I enjoy simply being.

9Jul09

The other day my Internet service was interrupted for a while.
I began writing this poem and remembered Rick Springfield's
'Jessie's Girl' for some strange reason. My wife and I had a
conversation a few weeks ago after I made the comment that
something was 'kinda moot'. We could remember only this song with
this phrase in it; 'the point is kinda moot'. She said I
should write a poem encompassing this phrase. Sorry, Rick...
