(A few years ago I had the distinct privilege of visiting the Giant Sequoias National Forest in California...it was a profoundly moving experience and took me back to an ancient time, long before humans were a part of the vistas those trees were present for...this is my tribute to the beauty and majesty of their existence.)
Sentinels of the earth
Standing at the ready
Silent giants
Proudly existing
Back through
The dawn of time
Mammoth mothers
Suckling all creatures
Minute and crawling
Regal and flying
Bearing witness
To ancient births
Soaring skyward
Faithfully unyielding
Gentle time-keepers
Asking nothing back
Only sunlight
And quenching rains
Awe-inspiring
Embracing the heavens
Primaeval grove
We cannot lose
Else we shall end
A dynasty.
