RUSHING TO ETERNITY

RUSHING TO ETERNITY

High on the cliff they stood
his arms reaching for her waist

Below the sea was dark
Waves were crashing on the sharp rocks relentless

The pungent odor of sea salt mixed
with fish was heavy in the air

Cold and gray fog hung drearily around them
Stepping backwards to escape his grasp her foot slipped

Fear and vertigo as she had never
known before enveloped her

She felt herself falling downward
minutes of her lifetime ticked off in her mind

Suddenly strong hands were lifting her
Arms holding her tight in a safe embrace

Their tears mingled as they
recalled what could have happen just now

They had been careless with their love
almost losing each other - what had they been angry about

They headed their car away from the steep cliff
Promising they would be more careful of their shared love

 Minutes of their lifetime
were ticking away

They had been rushing to eternity
Now they would cherish the present and hold each moment dear
