Poetic-Verses
Childhood......
I was born on a cold February morning,
Around 1955.
Alma Cog an was singing,
I was the forth in line;
Dad had a job in the gas works.
But it never lasted very long..........
Got a job as a porter on the Mersey
You had to be "hard" and strong;
Then one day he carried a trunk
Far up the landing stage;
For a British army officer
Who was once in my dads brigade......
The trunk went in the taxi,
As my dad doth ed his cap,
Took a shilling from the officer.
It's the day dad never came back.
I remember it so distinctly.
There was a rapping on the door,
"There has been a fatality", said the policemanto my mother.
"Your husband will not be home no more",
It seems he lifted the trunk
Took his shilling and felt a pain.
Sat down and went to sleep,
I never saw my dad again;
For being only six,
It effects me to this day;
one time i got angry, and thought,
Someone out there must pay;
That was forty eight years ago
Its as vivid as it was back then;
For always treasure your dad,
You may never see him again ..
