 EVERYTOWN USA
No longer is there any reason for me to stay in this place
Even the clock on the tower has a frown on its face
All the women wear leather now, no longer frilly lace
I hear the rumbling grumbling sound of distant thunder....

Guys on motorcycles come roaring through the town
The tension in the air has become too tightly wound
Everybody constantly has their head bowed down
Thieves have even stolen the sun as their personal plunder

Friendly voices on the street can find no place to meet
All stay inside their shells feeling empty and incomplete
Each puts up a valiant struggle just to stay on his feet
And not let the viciousness of the town pull him under....

Everything that once was good is all scattered and gone
The playgrounds and the parks are all deserted and alone
Sidewalks of the streets are where weeds are now grown
All things worthwhile have been methodically torn asunder....

The bells of the churches have all gone completely berserk
Neon signs on buildings sometimes flicker but do not work
All miscreants in the city hang by alleyways, skulk and lurk
Even the birds have left for the wild blue yonder.......

The lifeblood of the city is dripping from the trees
The statue of its founder has fallen to its knees
Crumbling foundations have a hundred maladies
All cries for help have met with no responder....
