IN MAMA'S DAY

IN MAMA'S DAY

GOSSIP

In mama's day

when we children went off to play

Mama and her friends would met
In the glider in the shade they would seat

Off we would pretend to go
We then slipped back to hear their tales of know

From those eaves-dropping sessions
I heard many of their confessions

"Mr. Jones has another wife and child in another town
He's a man who gets around"

"Vera's daughter has been acting strange
There is talk that she is deranged"

"Did you hear about you know who
doing you know what - with you know who"

They would talk very low and quiet
Then laugh loud with delight

"Little pitchers have big ears"
This I have learned over the years

Gossip was an active pass time for them
I know now gossip and eaves-dropping are to be condemned

HOLY BIBLE

The north wind brings forth rain,
and a backbiting tongue, angry looks.
