 Obligations
There is a huge difference in the attitude behind this word;
Considering the concept of commitment, which is preferred.
A sense of a twisted arm forcing me to an obligatory action;
With neither you nor me receiving complete satisfaction.
Amazing how changing a word can change the quality of life;
Now instead of an obligation, it is a commitment to my wife.
Children continue to have needs even after they're gone;
Yet, if only by obligation that I help, then bitterness is spawned.
When we serve our country, fulfilling our obligation and our duty;
That sense of patriotism is not complete, there is no true beauty.
Yet when we serve out of gratitude and commitment to our nation;
Our service is pure, with a whole heart, making our life an inspiration.
I am glad that there are those who do not run from their vows and hide;
For even if obligation controls us, a certain stability it does provide.
But I write this poem for us to seek a higher ground for our reasons;
Let your actions come from love and commitment, no matter the seasons.
