It plays no favorites and on this day
This line of mourners would come to pay
Respects to one, laying in wait
Someone we knew who met with fate
Time came today to say goodbye
From some distance are heard their cries
Console we can't with words are own
Or contact them by our cell phone
My ex-wife stands among the crowd
Waiting with some talking out loud
While children mine hang with heads low
Feeling the pain of deaths hands blow
Thank God they've grown to fend for themselves
From what comes next life sometimes Hell
Will bring much pain and suffering
As dormant is our offering
We scan the guests that came to say
Goodbye to me, this scene so gray
As dark clothes worn is the attire
By most today, this day so dire
I wish I could have said farewell
To those we love, we would wish well
To ask forgiveness when we were wrong
On days we argued with words quite strong
Kisses some left on cheek while still
We lie in wait as others kill
Their time with me smoking outside
Coffee in hand, the crowd subsides
A strangers voice calls out to all
It's time to pay respects last call
Before we're moved to resting place
A final glance of us and face
Moved by loss, the line is stalled
As daughter mine begins to bawl
Out loud she cries, daddy don't go!
Sorry princess, GOD has said so
The drive in rain pelting my car
Long dark this Hearse a trip not far
Will bring me to peaceful surroundings
As priest will bless the ground all stand in
The death of me came all too soon
Our hope is that this day of gloom
Will bring closure to those who came
As life goes on, just not the same
