Dust and Dreams-A Journey

The Shadow (Death)

The Shadow

The sickle caught the light,
As it swept past my weathered cheek,
I did not put up a fight,
For my voice rang soft and meek,

I thought I would sell my soul,
If only to steal a mere glance,
Of the reaper beneath his robes,
Orchestrating death's dance,

 So I ran, I ran, I ran,
From his skeletal, coaxing hand,
But alas, did my feet forsake me,
To throw my face into the sand,

The reaper, knew he no mercy,
His black shadow dark unto the wind,
He floated darkly above me,
He foretold of my every sin,

I gaped my mouth to scream, then found,
That my trembling, shaking lips,
Would emit not mere a sound,
In that dead moment of final silence,

With an inhuman, guttural growl,
The being threw back its hooded head,
An echo arose from the gusting air,
The roar of a thousand souls long dead,

The skull's ruby eyes aglow with fire,
Socketless gaze to burn with scorching ray,
I had not one wish, but screeching higher,
An opera of pain with the sky, deep gray,

At once I lay motionless,
As his evil wrath engulfed me,
He consumed my soul, stark blackness,
All that I forever see....................
