 Nevermore Niobe

*

Niobe came calling one cold winter morn
Some droplets fell, some on the wind were borne
You've heard the sound of raindrops falling on tin
Their syncopated rhythm sets the mood I am in....

*

But Niobe brings raindrops of a different kind
When memories fall heavily on my meandering mind
Some are like wild waves crashing on the shore
While others are reminders that I've been here before....

 *

Come forth graceful lady of teardrop swirls
While I hunt for any traces of a bygone world
Warm and salty, falling ever so lightly to the floor
Oh yes...oh yes, I have been here before.....

 *

Clouds create images and patterns of my past
Coalescing, dispersing, none of them ever last
Scenes are fading, disappearing from inside my mind
Please, this year, Niobe, don't be too unkind....

 *

I so often wonder why I am still in this place
Maybe being left behind is the final disgrace
Hovering around me, Niobe refuses to leave
So I'll make my own sunshine...I refuse to grieve....

*

Move on Melancholy, find another place to stay
I have driven almost all the darkened clouds away
Please take Niobe with you, you'll make a fine pair
As you commiserate with others over their despair....
