 That Day

This is the day that lives frozen in our hearts;
Full of pain, fear, and anger; terrorists threw darts.
It has been eight years now, yet it seems so fresh;
Anguish in my mind, sadness in my soul, pain in my flesh.

I still see the images burnt into my brain from that day;
Unleashing within me the feeling that someone has to pay.
As a nation we have dished out retribution to these forces;
Yet, a healing it doesn't bring; no, the pain it reinforces.

I remember that day with the sadness of the human soul;
Remembering the words that ring true bravery, “Let's roll”.
A permanent memorial in every American heart lives on;
We live, we love, we raise or families; but our innocence is gone.

Join me today in prayer for all of us that the day touches;
Let us maintain our love, never entering bitterness's clutches.
Respect and honor those who lost their lives on this day in time;
Listen to the distant church bells as they ring out their chime.
