Thirsting for God
O God O God you are my God,
The God that I honor and laud;
Creator of Heaven and earth,
The God who also gave me birth.
At the dawning as I awake,
I search as I feel my heart ache;
With dreams that I was immersed,
Searching for You my soul did thirst.
My body as a dry parched land,
Like a desert of shifting sand;
All night long as it tossed and turned,
For Your comfort o how it yearned.
No water to quench from the Word,
Ears barren since nothing was heard;
So I look in Your Holy Place,
For finding Your power and grace.
So with my lips I will give praise,
As glory is able to glaze;
My lips and ears with Your soft voice,
Quenching my soul as I rejoice.
I lift up my hands in Your name,
Satisfying me to proclaim;
Nourishing my soul to sing,
And with joyful lips to my King.
