Heart of Stone

Photobucket

Could you with your heart of stone
exile yourself to this lonely life; live alone?
You have felt the pain of fears unspoken
of love's burning tears, a heart once broken.
Could you not once more believe?

Like a stone weathered and worn
into pebbles, the heart is broken and torn
by tears which wash away the bittersweet pain.
Your understanding with the will to try again
the tenderness of love you might receive.

Could you lock your heart, lose the key
live in that seclusion throughout eternity?
You have seen storm clouds invading
all those issues you have been evading.
Could your heart be so bitter cold?

Just as the sapling grows into a tree
you too can grow out of your obscurity
if you but try to mend those welts and scars.
This life and love might eventually be ours
to cherish together as we grow old.
