This soul in a body is an immortal fragment
Of the soul of the whole universe and in fact
It draws with it the mind and five senses
That rest in matter, as the wind carries away
The fragrance from their seat of the flowers
Even so the individual soul, lord of the body
Draws away mind and senses when it goes away
And casts them off to the body it acquires
As a man casts off a worn out garment
And puts on a new garment, similarly
The embodied soul casts off its worn out body
And enters into other which is a new one
As all pervading ether is not tainted
By reason of its subtlety, so the self seated
Every where in the body is also not tainted
Your soul is neither your body nor your mind
Nor senses nor any thing that you’ve possessed
This soul is neither born nor does it die
Nor being born does it cease to be at any time
It is unborn, eternal, primeval and ever abiding
Never been killed though the body is slain
The soul is uncleavable and incombustible
It can neither be wetted nor dried; it is stable
Immovable, eternal and like a leaf of a tree
It exists as a part of the tree of life of the universe
It shines like a star but thinks as if it were not
The part of heavenly fire out of its own ignorance.
There fore it may be stated that all our souls
Are the waves in an ocean of bliss consciousness!
