As We Know

Photobucket
with my feet dangling at the foot of the pier
i sit there in deep thought wondering the way of things
the water began to gently ripple as i watched
to my utter amazement a water sprite rose from the water
if we believe our prayers will be answered as we know

she had the sweetest face and gentlest smile
gently swirling the water she pointed at the pictures
i watched as my life opened up before my eyes
some were sad some tragic others werent so bad
if we believe our prayers will be answered as we know

she showed me what has to be and what might be
letting me know what i have to learn from
but the things i had control over had to be then
so i had to make my decisions from my lessons
if we believe our prayers will be answered as we know

tears began to fall as i realized all the lessons i had lost
could i make the rest count could i make up for lost times
as i looked into her eyes i saw the tears no i could not
but i realized even though the past was gone the future was not
if we believe our prayers will be answered as we know

she gave me a final smile as she slowly returned to the water
i sadly watched as the last of the ripples disappeared
thinking about what she had shown me i wondered have i learned
i also wondered if i would make it through the rest of my life
if we believe our prayers will be answered as we know
