 Reflections of My Heart

Check It At The Door

Check It At The Door

 This man opened the door
for equality and freedom for all
but before we could really walk thru
Too soon he received God's Call

What happened so long ago
If only we all could see
Was not done to you
Nor done by me.

We can only move on
learning from our mistakes
Remembering with each days end
there are no retakes.

We all have a fresh day
With each rising sun
But remember when it sets
what's done is done

So to think that hate or violence
is a way to settle injustice
Nothing was learned
From his words in abundance

Through his own words
peace and love was given
Yet today those words are tarnished
When hate is so driven

Peace among all
if we really dig deep
And oh it would be
such a treasure to keep

I believe today he would tell us
The only way for a point to score
Is to shed our hate and violence
And just check it at the door.

Authors Note May 2020
With all the violent rioting of today that
is being whitewashed as protesting
most of the participants were not even
born during this awesome wise man's life
so this write will probably mean nothing
to you. Yes he spoke mainly on the
rights for blacks but this man fought
so hard for justice for all. I was only
approaching adulthood when he was
taken from us. I was devastated when
he was shot.  He had a huge impact
on me and my life. If I could ask one
thing of the youth today it would be
to listen to some of his speeches.
He said We Shall Overcome I don't
believe he meant the black race
Would overcome any other race
But overcome  (rise above) what had
been done to the black race. I KNOW
he did not mean to go out and loot
and burn your neighbors home or business.
When your anger to an injustice is dealt
with thru violence you beat yourselves.
Mr. King also said I Have A Dream
and I can promise you what is going on today
Is not that dream....

ღ God asked me how long I planned on keeping you in my life.
I smiled and said...
How do I choose between always and forever...
But then I have found that's really not up to me... ღ
