 No, Not  Winter  Again!
Winter  barged  in  unannounced  and  unwanted
I  awoke  with  a  shiver,  chilled  to  the  bone
knowing  summer  would  be  gone  for  a  long
time,  tears  slipped  down  the  corners  of  my
face  and  fell  onto  my  pillow

I  had  never  been  a  fan  of  winter,  I  was  a
hothouse  flower,  I  forced  myself  up,  frantically
groping  for  my  rob,  I  slid  my  feet  into  cold
slippers  and  made  my  way  to  a  frost-covered
window,  wiping  it  with  the  sleeve  of  my  rob

I  stood  there  gazing at  least  two  feet  of  snow
winter  had  not  even  been  polite  enough  to  ease
In  a  little  at  a  time,  it  came  in  blowing  its  fridged
artic  breath,  entombing  falls  lovely  shades  of  gold
and  red  in  an  eye  squinting  shade  of  white

I  began  hating  winter  as  a  child, I  seemed  to  be  sick
all  winter,  my   mother,  out  of  an  abundance  of  caution
kept  me  inside except  for  school  I  was  made  a  virtual
prisoner  from  late  September  until  late  April,  missing
everything  that  occurred  during  those  months

I  tare  myself  away  from  the  window  and  turned  on  the
furnace,  the  first  whiffs  smell  musty,  I  pad  my  way
Into  the  kitchen,  wiping  the  tears  from  my  eye's,  and
turn  on  the  coffee,  my  hubby  comes  into  the  kitchen
and  says,  have  you  looked  out  the  window?

Yes, I  reply,  Isn't  that  snow  beautiful  he  inquires,  I  turn
and  face  this  man  that  I  have  loved  for  forty  two
years,  but  at  this  moment  all  I  feel  is  rage,  have
you  completely  lost  your  mind,  my  heads  burning  and
I'm  sure  that  flames  must  be  flying  from  my  mouth

I  run  to  the  bedroom,  throw  my  trembling  body  on  the
bed   and  release  a  barrage  of  gut-wrenching  cries
hubby  comes  rushing  in  with  a  look  of  pure  regret  on
his  face,  regret  that  for  one  fleeting  moment  he  had
forgotten  how  intensely  I  felt  about  that  first  snowfall

He  lay  down  beside  me,  put  his  arm  around  me  and
pleads  for  my  forgiveness,  telling  me  how  sorry  he  is  for
making  such  an  insensitive  remark,  he  reaches  over  and
grabs  some  tissues  from  the  nightstand,  I  hear  the  coffee
pot  chugging  out  the  last  of  the  coffee

I  say  I'll  go  get  our  coffee,  he  says  no  honey,  I'll  get  it
we  sit  down  in  the  living  room  and  turn  on  the  television
the  weather  report  is  looping  on the  bottom  of  the  screen
my  wise,  loving  husband  with  lighting  speed  turns  the
channel  to  island  getaways.
