It had rained yesterday night but I couldn't hear
My thatched roof gave me silence and sound sleep
On my bamboo bed I slept dreaming of sea crabs
I had caught a crab yesterday at the Ada beach
I was with Tina, my sister and companion
Today on this bed with Mimi my friend and lover
We have been awaken by another but a strange
A woman from the world of space whose eyes I could not watch
She struggled behind my heavy mahogany window in loneliness
My window I made myself-I met it in the woods behind our house
I wept when I saw it lie on the floor like a victim of apartheid
So I prayed faith and laid it on my shoulder as a dying gladiator
And with my knifes, chisel and hammer I made me a brown and bitter window
That was two and ten years when I was a teen and fifteen
I can see the woman of space peeping through a hole in the mahogany
I felt her eyes fixed towards my man…it brightness shown
Though I was beneath the heavy sheep skin cloth, I felt a warm within
Mimi gazed and I gazed and we all gazed at the window
We could not look straight in her eyes but she could watch and even admire
Whiles I laid beside the other, I heard the voice of the window speak
“Open your heart and window…permit her into your humble abode
For she came with plans, to give you strength and warmth.”
I motioned to the voice and it spoke no longer
I threw open the wood and behold
Everything that smiles was laughing outside
Everything that walks was running in de-light
And everything was gay and usual upon her coming
I felt my heart move and my love split into two unequal
I could hardly think of Mimi now for all I know is my new bride
I prayed to the lord for my state of divided heart and divided love
I smiled at her and she smiled in return…and I knew what was coming up next
I have committed adultery, I have fornicated, and I have fallen in love with two
I have made love to two in the same moon
I have the blood of youthfulness and the mind of man
I'm in love with the universe dear JESUS!
I pray repent but not now.
